The Grammys

I normally don’t really watch the Grammys, just lots of noise, but this year I watched some, fast forward thru much, but was blown away by Sugarland’s Stay and the Adele with Sugarland. I also liked T.I. and Justin T….

What a amazing game!

No, not the Super Bowl, I couldn’t care less about American Football, all though I must say that I’m happy the Steelers won, cause their team name is way cooler then cardinals.

During the time the Super Bowl was on, I watched tennis, the Australian Open Men’s Final between Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal. And man, what a extrodinary match this was! Excellent tennis from both players, impossible shots, emotional and tense moments during the game, and the Trophy presentation…unbelievable! I’m not a fan of Federer, but of course I recognize his greatness in the game, but what an emotional moment when he breaks down when he tries to address the crowd after lossing to Rafa in 5 awesome sets! They fought as their lives depended on it! I’m actually hpoing that Federer will not win another Grand Slam and be up there with Pete Sampras with all time Slam records. For me, Sampras is still the best tennis player in history! Rafa might beat the record though and this I wouldn’t mind.

If you did not see this great moment in sports history, take the time and watch this!

SAG Winners

I will update this tomorrow, because I was lucky enough to see the East Coast feed, and I don’t wanna spoil anything for the West Coast viewers, but wow…there were some surprises! For me at least!

UPDATE:
So, really on the television side there are never really any shocking upsets…dull! Hugh Laurie again for “House”…please, give me a break (sorry Kat).
The two big surprises of the evening for me:
1) Meryl Streep, Best Actress: LOVE Meryl, love her acceptance speeches, liked Doubt a lot, but this performance should not have gotten her the Actor. Kate Winslet was my favorite, and most likely to win, but Melissa Leo or Anne Hathaway should have even won over Meryl (sorry, still haven’t seen Angelina’s performance).

2) Sean Penn, Best Actor: he was great in Milk, and deserved the nomination, maybe even the win. I would have prefered Mickey Rourke, but am happy with Sean. I just didn’t expect it. Richard Jenkins was great in “The Visitor”, so would not have mind either. Pretty much any of the four except for Brad Pitt…I just really did not like that movie!

Onwards to the Oscars!

SAG Awards 2008

With the SAG Awards about to start in less then an hour, just a little update of what I saw this weekend.

Friday night I saw Man on Wire, a documentary, so nothing to do with the “acting” awards tonight. I did see The Visitor last night, and the movie touched me more then Richard Jenkins performance did. But he was still very good, and I can see him being rewarded by his fellow actors. The movie was a big surprise for me cause I didn’t know much about it, and as an immigrant myself, I felt maybe a little more for the story and the characters as others. Very emotional.

I’m not sure if Mickey Rourke will win tonight. Frank Langella and Richard Jenkins are very well respected among their peers, and…well…Mickey is just Mickey. I still wish Leonardo DiCaprio was in this list as well

On the woman’s side I hope Kate will sweep lead and supporting as she did at the Globes, Melissa Leo and Anne Hathaway have a big chance I think.

Supporting actor will be Heath Ledger…for sure!

I hope Slumdog Millionaire wins best cast. Milk has a good chance here to cause the cast is amazing!

I’m off to Trader Joe’s before the awards start!

No youtube…Viddler!

Last weekend I posted my first finished film on my blog! Thank you for the kind comments! I tried to use Youtube, but ran into copy rights for the music used. So I went over to Viddler, and that’s where my film is posted it now!
Check it out (again)!

2009 Oscar Nominations

Wow, a couple of surprises this year! For the complete list of nominees, click here

Below are the categories I’m going to focus on, and give my two cents about them:

Best Picture:
“The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”
“Frost/Nixon”
“Milk” – glad to see Milk getting recognision!
“The Reader” – my second pick
“Slumdog Millionaire” : will win and should win.

Big mistake: Not nominating “Revolutionary Road” for Best Picture! This year, two movies really had people hate or love it: “Revolutionary Road”, I LOVED it, “Curious Case…”…hmm, not so much, not at all actually, but hate is too strong of a word.

Actor:
Richard Jenkins, “The Visitor” – have not seen yet
Frank Langella, “Frost/Nixon”
Sean Penn, “Milk”
Brad Pitt, “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”
Mickey Rourke, “The Wrestler” : will win and should win.

Big mistake: not nominating Leonardo Dicaprio for “Revolutionary Road”!

Actress:
Anne Hathaway, “Rachel Getting Married”
Angelina Jolie, “Changeling” – not seen yet
Melissa Leo, “Frozen River”
Meryl Streep, “Doubt”
Kate Winslet, “The Reader” – should win

Who will win: hmm, the Academy loves new faces, so Melissa and Anne could be the upset here. They were both great, but I think the Oscar will go to Kate after 5 noms and no win yet, I think the 6th will be it. Big mistake: not nominating Kate for “Revolutionary Road”!
Big mistake: leaving out Kristin Scott Thomas for “I’d Loved You So Long”! Kristin deserved it more then Meryl in my opinion.

Supporting Actor:
Josh Brolin, “Milk” – nice
Robert Downey Jr., “Tropic Thunder” – not seen yet
Philip Seymour Hoffman, “Doubt”
Heath Ledger, “The Dark Knight” : will/should win
Michael Shannon, “Revolutionary Road” : won’t win/should win

I’m conflicted here. Heath Ledger played the part of his career, and yes, Oscar worthy. Michael Shannon was absolutely amazing, and yes, Oscar worthy. Since Heath passed away, the recognision comes too late, and it will mean something for his friends, family, The Dark Knight cast and crew, but for Michael Shannon it would be a nice honor for him in his life time. Though, toss up…I’ll be happy either way

Supporting Actress:
Amy Adams, “Doubt”
Penelope Cruz, “Vicky Cristina Barcelona”
Viola Davis, “Doubt”
Taraji P. Henson, “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” : will win
Marisa Tomei, “The Wrestler” : should win

I think all were good, but my least favorite would be Taraji, but she’s getting so much buzz (as is the movie), that I think it will be her night. Who I think should win? I think I’ll go with Marisa. She’s never afraid to take on though, smaller parts, that show her acting skills (and body…WOW!). I LOVED Viola Davis, but thinking about it more…she only had one scene in which she shined, and what made her deserve the nod. Would love it if Penelope won as well.

Director:
David Fincher, “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”
Ron Howard, “Frost/Nixon”
Gus Van Sant, “Milk”
Stephen Daldry, “The Reader”
Danny Boyle, “Slumdog Millionaire” : will win and should win.

But, big mistake: not nominating Sam Mendes for “Revolutionary Road”. The directing of that movie was one of the main reason why this movie was one of my favorites of the year. Awesome to see Gus van Sant in here which he deserves. Ron Howard had me sitting on the edge of my seat which I did not expect with “Frost/Nixon”. I LOVED “The Reader”, and wouldn’t mind if Stephen Daldry won, which would be a big upset.

Foreign Film:
“The Baader Meinhof Complex” Germany
“The Class” France
“Departures” Japan; “Revanche,” Austria
“Waltz With Bashir” Israel : will win

I have not seen any of the movies nominated here, but I’m sure “Waltz…” will win after what I’ve heard from friends and critics. Will definatley see this before the awards! But big mistake here: “I’d Loved You So Long”…saw this last night, and was really impressed! I think “Tell No One” was a 2006 movie, but it was released in 2008, so either I missed seeing this movie nominated last year (I’ll check), or the the Academy made a big mistake here not nominating what was for me one of the best movies of the year!

That’s it!

President Barack Hussein Obama

t1wideinaugtues53cnn
On this day, Barack Hussein Obama, has been sworn in as the 44th President of the United States of America! A beautiful, historic day!

I can’t think of a better Birthday present for Fishering, who celebrates his Birthday today, and for the rest of his life he will be able to say the the first black man was sworn in as president on his Birthday! Happy Birthday!

Just as I will always have my Birthday, November 4th, as the day that Barack Obama won the elections in 2008!

It’s a glorious day, and the beginning of a new era in this country, full of properity, strong leadership, lots of new jobs, and Health care for all!

World Wide Premiere!

My first finished short film! Shot, acted, edited and published by me, Jeroen!

Yes, I made some mistakes shooting in different modes, so I couldn’t get every shot the same size. I used a free software program, Windows Movie Maker…not that fancy.

And here’s the thing: when you make and edit your own movie for fun, and there’s no deadline…when are you done editing? There are always different effects and transitions to use, the font to pick for the end credit… When are you done?

Today I decided that this is it! No more tweaking, changing or anything! This is my movie, and it’s done!

The song, “Elephants Instrumental” by Rachael Yamagata, inspired me to make this film. A statement about the current situation I’m in…many people are in. I tried to tell a story, and I hope that comes across.

Please, ANY comments are appreciated. Let me know what you think! Good or bad, so I can improve as I continue to make movies.
And…if you liked it…please share on your blog…Facebook…or anywhere, so my movie gets seen;)

So, with no further ado…enjoy the movie!

RIP Bailey

Yesterday my dear friend Kat had to say goodbye to her long time companion, Bailey the dog. It’s was Bailey’s time, before the suffering would be too much. Still, everyone who ever had to say goodbye to a pet, no matter what circumstances, knows how hard and painful it is. Coming home without your friend greeting you, going to sleep without saying goodnight, and all the memories.

Bailey had a good life, cause his mom is an awesome, caring and just a wonderful person and pet lover! I wish you much strength dealing with your grief.

I’m an uncle!!!

Since my sister will not have kids, I have become the closest for me to be an uncle!!! My friend Kaline just welcomed a healthy baby girl named Senne into the world! I’m so freakin’ excited, but really wish I could be there now instead of in LA…so far away!
Can’t wait to meet Senne! Hmm, I wonder if I’ll still be her godfather…

Un-freaking-believable!

I just have to say, as a former flight attendant, having had the long training for situations like the landing yesterday on The Hudson River, the pilot did an almost impossible job, landing on water…a freakin’ river in the middle of NY, saving all passengers and crew!!! Also lots of credit of course to the co-pilot and the flight attendants for this amazing emergency landing with a miraculous good ending!

And next time you fly…be nice to the flight attendants! Believe me, we were no trained for months to serve you coffee, find a place for your over sized carry-on, and no, we don’t like being delayed…it means a longer work day! We were trained to safe your ass in case of an emergency, like the one yesterday. So a little more respect okay? 🙂
